EU-UK finance MoU: Government should pursue beneficial alignment for all sectors

Responding to the signing of a new UK-EU memorandum of understanding for greater cooperation on financial services, Hilary Benn MP, Co-convenor of the UK Trade and Business Commission, said:

“After years of confrontation, this is welcome recognition from the Government that we have much to gain by talking to the EU about important sectors of our respective economies which we both want to see prosper.

“Building on this, the establishment of a new UK-EU Regulatory Cooperation Council could help to ensure that regulatory alignment continues across all parts of the economy, where this is beneficial to us, so reducing costs for both businesses and consumers.”
