June Inflation: Fix Brexit deal to reduce stubbornly high figure

Today the ONS confirmed that in the year to June 2023, inflation in the UK was 7.9%, remaining the highest of any G7 economy.

Hilary Benn MP, Co-convenor of the UK Trade and Business Commission, said:

“While the fall in the headline rate is welcome, millions of people are feeling the pain from high inflation. One factor is that the Brexit deal has further increased costs for businesses and consumers.

"The quickest way to help ease inflation is to improve trading arrangements with our largest partners in the EU, and that should start with committing to regulatory alignment where beneficial and negotiating a reciprocal youth mobility scheme.”
