UK Trade Commission responds as government prepares to drop climate commitments from Australia trade deal

Responding to revelations that the UK Government is preparing to drop key climate commitments in their negotiations with Australia on a new trade deal, Caroline Lucas, member of the cross-party UK Trade and Business Commission and Green Party MP said:

"Weeks before the UK is due to host an international summit to secure climate action, this revelation paints a bleak picture of both the government's priorities and their abysmal negotiating power post-Brexit.

"Only yesterday, the government showed they are willing to break any promise they make to the public and their readiness to compromise on the existential challenge of our time raises serious concerns on what else might be on the table in ongoing trade negotiations."
